1010 Project:

The 1010 Project provides income generating grants to indigenous development partners in Kenya and raises awareness in the United States on behalf of the global poor. As the Children of Hope children’s home is established and the Circle of Light lighting and cooking program is retooled in Kenya, we are eager to begin working collaboratively with the 1010 Project. We have met on many occasions, both in the states and in Kenya, to examine the opportunities that may await our future development in Kenya. The PROBLEM:

The majority of Africans live in rural areas, particularly those people who live in western, eastern, and southern Africa.

Many villagers are subsistent farmers, which means that they live almost entirely off of the food that they grow themselves. Fast food restaurants and supermarkets, as we know them, do not exist in most of Africa. People sell clothing, food, and other supplies at outdoor markets.

Therefore, access to micro-loans for seed, products to sell and opportunities to safely save a little money along the way become imperative for their daily and long-term growth. Few organizations are willing to take the financial risk on rural communities because of the greater degrees of poverty and the decreased opportunities for full-time employment.

With each Circle of Light Energy Store launch, a thousand dollars is set aside for an additional community economic development project. If the community establishes a community association for the purpose of establishing other community development initiatives and projects, they may apply for the use of these funds.

From the beginning of Community Uplift Ministries, we have been looking for micro-finance initiatives, organizations and ministries willing to help address the glaring need for micro-savings and micro-loans within the rural communities where CoL is operating.

Below is a list of ministries we are working with to help facilitate micro-finance opportunities where CoL is working.
