People living in rural communities of developing countries have little or no access to modern, affordable energy, limiting their potential growth and progress.
Therefore, as a manifestation of Christ’s love, the Circle of Light program was established in 2002 to utilize modern energy as a platform to facilitate transformation of individuals and communities spiritually, physically, socially and economically.
Working together with God, they provide programs, facilities and resources to meet basic lighting, cooking and Christian discipleship needs in rural homes and communities.
Circle of Light and Synergy Initiatives, along with Children of Hope, are sister-programs under the same parent organization, Community Uplift Ministries. We work hand-in-hand to provide programs and essential resources to uplift the lives of millions of people by facilitating transformation of individuals and communities spiritually, physically, socially, and economically.
The PROBLEM:
Africa is the world’s poorest continent. Therefore, power shortages are common in many African nations, costing economies billions of dollars, shutting down industries and dampening investment, even though resources of hydro, oil, gas, coal, solar and geothermal power are abundant.
Power is the key to open factories, increase farm yields and advance industrial production opportunities. Yet it is estimated that only 30% of Africans have access to electricity compared with an average of 40% in other emerging markets. This is largely due to the fact that the majority of people in Africa still live in small rural communities.
While large-scale solutions are being proposed and implemented for the urban cities across Africa, the majority of the people living in rural communities will not see lights go on in their homes. Without smaller, sustainable and scalable models created for the rural poor, they will remain in the dark beyond our lifetime.
